Here’s how the Spanish sangha Sangha Activa worked to lessen its environmental impact.

Our Ecosattva vows

The Earth does not need us. We need the earth. Yet we humans are threatening our own existence and the existence of all other species. We are on a collision path with reality and reality always wins. Our Ecosattva vows are modelled on the Bodhisattva vows:

I vow:

To live in Earth more lightly in the food, products and energy I consume.

To commit myself daily to the healing of the world and the welfare of all beings; to discern and replace human systems of oppression and harm.

To invite personal discomfort as an opportunity to share in our collective liberation.

To draw inspiration from the living Earth, ancestors and future generations.

To help others in their work for the world and to ask for help when I feel the need.

To pursue a daily spiritual practice that supports me in observing these vows.

SEE-FAB checklists & goal planning sheets

SEE-FAB (Sustainable Environment on Earth For All Beings) aims to help any Buddhist centre or organisation assess and optimise its environmental sustainability. To this end we have developed a free checklist and methodology, free to download and use in nine European languages:
