Tradition: Tibetan Buddhism | Jonang Tradition
Spiritual Director: Shar Khentrul Rinpoche
A Jewel of Tibetan Buddhism in the Mountains of Styria
Situated at an altitude of 1,000 meters in a completely peaceful setting, the Dzokden Kalapa Retreat Center, with its newly renovated Kālachakra Temple and Kālachakra Stūpa, offers ideal conditions for spiritual practice. “Kalapa” is the name of the Pure Realm of Śhambhala.
Through authentic study, practice, and service to the community, its program provides a balanced approach for all who wish to unveil their inherent Buddha-nature. By establishing inner peace, we create the conditions to manifest a second Golden Age of peace and harmony — “Dzokden” in Tibetan — as prophesied by the Buddha in the Kālachakra Tantra.
Kālachakra Tantra: Wisdom that Unites
The teachings of the Kālachakra Tantra encompass all levels of life: External Reality (the universe), Internal Reality (body and mind), and Enlightened Reality (enlightenment and the path to achieving it). They offer a proven model (Śhambhala) for the peaceful coexistence of diverse cultures.
The Six Vajra Yogas of Kālachakra according to the Jonang Tradition
The Jonang is an authentic tradition of Tibetan Buddhism with an unbroken lineage of transmission of the complete pith instructions of the Six Vajra Yogas of Kālachakra. Hidden in the mountains of Tibet and suffering political persecution, it was mistakenly believed to be extinct.
Dzokden Kalapa facilitates the practice of the Six Vajra Yogas, sublime and rare teachings of definitive meaning of the Buddha. Never before has the complete Completion Stage of this practice been made accessible in group retreats for non-monastic practitioners outside Tibet. The entire Jonang-Ngondro is offered as preparation.
To share the inspiration of these teachings with non-Buddhists and non-believers, additional events are organized.
History and Spiritual Leadership
The She Drup Ling Association established and managed Kalapa from 2000 onwards. In 2022, the center was handed over to Shar Khentrul Rinpoche Jamphel Lodrö to become part of his international Dzokden network, and was subsequently renamed “Dzokden Kalapa.”
The Rimé Master Shar Khentrul Rinpoche has been identified on several occasions as the reincarnation of the great Kālachakra Master Ngawang Chözin Gyatso and received the Jonang-Kālachakra lineage transmission from his Root Lama, Lobsang Trinley. Although Rinpoche holds sincere respect for various spiritual systems, he dedicates his life to this path and to creating conditions for a second Golden Age.
