Shinnyoji Temple was founded in September 2004 by Rev. Anna Maria Shinnyo Marradi and officially recognised by Rev. Ry\u016bshin Azuma R\u014dshi, the 72nd Abbot of Daij\u014dji Monastery in Kanazawa in Japan as \u201cShinnyoji Daij\u014dji Italy Betsuin\u201d which in English means, \u201cTemple of Truth, as it is<\/em>, Italian Branch of Daij\u014dji Monastery\u201d. The Temple is in association with the Italian Buddhist Union and the S\u014dt\u014d-sh\u016b Sh\u016bm\u016bch\u014d in Japan. It is also affiliated to Sokanbu Europe Office.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At Shinnyoji we practice S\u014dt\u014d Zen sitting meditation (zazen) and walking meditation (kin-hin) as well as S\u016btra chanting. We hold retreats several times a year where we take our meals formally (\u014dryoki) and practise samu (work). Throughout the year we conduct traditional S\u014dt\u014d Zen Ceremonies such as Ordination Ceremonies and the Sankie butsu<\/em>, the three most salient events in the Buddha’s life: birth, G\u014dtan-e<\/em>; enlightenment, J\u014dd\u014d-e<\/em>; and entry into the Parinirv\u0101\u1e47a, Nehan-e<\/em>. We also offer beginners\u2019 Zen courses and calligraphy courses. We have a library of books on Buddhism in various languages as well as a garden and a Tea House which is open to everyone. Our trimestral Sangha magazine, EkiZen<\/em><\/a>, has been running since 2009 and is published in both Italian and English.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At Shinnyoji, the Temple is always open to anyone regardless of orientation or belief and for any level of commitment. Anyone may meditate on the scheduled days and times of practice: a zafu \u2013 cushion for meditation \u2013 is always available for whomever, at any moment of their life, decides to sit in Zazen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
