Animal Welfare

The EBU’s Animal welfare group is restarting and we welcome new members.

Our purpose is to lobby for animal welfare in Brussels, to develop EU law leading to reduced suffering for animals in the food industry.

For Buddhism, the human being is not the centre of the universe.

According to Buddhism, humans and the world we live in were not created by a supreme being who also created animals to be our food, to give us their skins and to serve us in many ways.

Rather, we humans are part of nature, just like all other forms of life on planet Earth. Though we have a kind of intelligence which is different from that of animals, this difference does not imply superiority and does not give us a kind of ‘divine right’ to decide over the life and death of other forms of life.
