The Annual General Meeting of the European Buddhist Union brought together member organisations from across Europe in Brussels to strengthen collaboration, shape the Union’s future direction, and explore the theme “Respect for the Religious Rights of Buddhists in Europe.”

Alongside the General Assembly, participants engaged in dialogue with experts, policymakers, and representatives from Buddhist communities across Europe, reflecting on religious freedom, democratic values, and the role of the EBU in fostering cooperation and representing Buddhists at the European level.

Representatives from more than 30 Buddhist organisations across Europe gathered for the European Buddhist Union’s Annual General Meeting to reflect on the past year, shape future priorities, and strengthen collaboration across traditions.

The meeting included the approval of the EBU’s 2025 action plan, discussions on long-term strategy and governance, the welcoming of three new member organisations, and preparations for the 2026 AGM in France. The gathering reaffirmed the shared commitment to dialogue, cooperation, and supporting a vibrant European Buddhist community.

The 2024 AGM brought together representatives from EBU member organisations to review the previous year, discuss governance and ratify plans for the year ahead. Member participation was crucial for the success of the meeting.

A long-awaited conference exploring how Buddhists across Europe, despite the diversity of traditions, share a unified path of practice. The conference shed light on how, at this point in time, we can best proceed as individual human beings, as a society and as Buddhists.

After a year shaped by travel restrictions, the EBU was finally able to gather in person again. The 2021 AGM took place at the Istituto Lama Tzong Khapa in Pomaia, hosted in cooperation with the institute. Topics included finance, governance, member applications, and plans for the year ahead.
